Good day everyone. This is my Rough Coat Jack Russell Terrier Today I will show you how I groom her. I just learned this from other people and some tutorials, her coat is long.
the weather is so hot we need to make her feel better by grooming her. she's a Philippine & Junior Champion in the Philippines and her name is Khali and there are my puppies, cooling down because of the heat. and you can see there are the tools that we'll be using for grooming.
Group of Scissors, Stripping Knife, comb, and a slicker brush. Okay, let's start now. As you know, Guys. Rough Coated terriers/dogs... ..they are not recommended to be groomed using razors.
because they have a different type of coat. If you use a razor on a terrier the fur will grow unhealthy, and the color of there markings will fade.
So it is advisable to use these tools, the stripping knife. Or by plucking (Hand Stripping) But I suggest that you use a stripping knife because it would be easier.
And as you know, JRT's are double-coated which is the undercoat And upper rough coat. that's what you need to strip or remove, it's like dead hair/split ends. And for a quick review on how I use these different tools
For Curve scissors, I usually use them for finishing touches to make round looks on feet and beard of the dog And trimming scissors I use it for the face of the dog for the excess fur that's hard to pluck this fur's near the jawline this one and also on the tails,
I also use trimming scissors and also and the butt when it's hard to pluck. And these regular shears I just use it for finishing. for excess furs and you want it to become neat
And then, these are the stripping knife and I'll show you later on how to use it and this is the COARSE type, with large gaps on the knifes teeth this is the MEDIUM Type And this is the FINE type which I mostly use on the face of the dog this is the Super Fine, used for finishing, rolling and I use it by combing it on the dog's fur mostly I use for this type of coat,
which is not too much in volume is the MEDIUM and FINE Type but mostly I used the Medium type as you can see they have different gaps of the teeth of the knife as you can see this one is the finest.
for finishing and before you start grooming try to use a slicker brush to remove the tangles on the dog's fur so let us start and now I will start grooming the head
I usually start from the ears and I use the FINE type Stripping knife Or what will I do here is by plucking the fur as you can see, you can easily get some fur can you see?
Let me focus on the cam. there now you can see the plucked furs or try to use the stripping knife for beginners so I'll fast forward the video while I groom my dog
And now I'll show you that I already plucked One side of the ears let me try to show you this now it's neater there by the help of the stripping knife and manually plucking it as you can see the other ear is not yet plucked and the proper grip on the stripping knife.
This one let me focus this one there is a smooth side and there is a rough side of the stripping knife this side must be towards you and you must follow on where the strands of the fur grow the way of stripping must be parallel with the growth of the fur of your dog grab a small amount of hair and then pull it carefully there you can see that some dead hair/fur was obtained remember you must not grab a large amount of hair.
just make sure to only grab strands that flies away from the dog's body and then pull it towards you/ towards the growth of the dog's fur there are just like dog's dead hai I just showed you the proper way of holding a stripping knife now let's get back on the head Additional tips.
Be cautious on stripping the fur you might get your dog bald spots so please be careful so I will try to show you closely on how I strip my dogs head using FINE type try to brush up the excess fur and then grab it and pull it by using your thumb as a grip.
And for the face make sure to strip this part here's what I do from the corner of the eyes deep down until here,
I strip it So that the jawline will be visible to show the dog's facial expression which looks intimidating remove the fur below the eyes also and try to maintain some beard.
I use the trimming scissors here it is just to take shape to make here bear looks nice and neat and now I have groomed her head and it looks neater now I'll leave the beard like that first and I have not plucked this part yet near the jawline will come back to it later on and now let's proceed to groom the neck and the body from the head.
the neck and the body next is the foot, and then the tail that's my order on how I groom my dog for the neck and the body I use... the MEDIUM type stripping knife for the head and the neck.
I use the FINE type after I used the Medium type on the neck part I used the FINE type for finishing and as well as the tails and now let's proceed on stripping the body and the neck part it would be better if start at the top part of the dogs back and then after that is the dog's side parts.
but now the dog is not comfortable when you see her uncomfortable try to groom other parts first as you can see I already plucked more fur the head and some of the body and some parts here.
After that, I'll try to do the finishing later on and for the body, I'll remind you that we used this one the MEDIUM type of stripping knife for the body, and for the head.
we used this one, the FINE type and for her tails, we will try to trim it with the help of trimming scissors so it would be easier for us and for the butt part, try to pluck it or use the trimming scissors use scissors on the body and the head and the feet and now you can clearly see her shape jawline is now visible and the head is nice and neat.
I used trimming scissors to make my life easier this part has fine furs which make it hard to pluck now she looks more intimidating with strong facial expressions for the back part.
I have not fully groom it I'll just do it tomorrow to let her rest because my dog seems tired already she's not cooperative now.
and now for the feet lastly what I do is this one, the SUPER FINE type stripping knife I try to use this as a comb on her feet let's try it on this side.
I comb it all the way and you can see here some fur goes with the stripping knife and the excess fur on the feet I just do manual plucking and after that, after I plucked the dead hairs.
I use trimming shears for finishing I'll show you on the next clip Hello friends we have done grooming her feet we call this type of grooming on the feet as CAT PAWS.
Very neat her nails does not show up, just at the right place try to make her foot almost round looking but as you can see excess fur at the back part of the foot I'll just pluck it later so it would be more pleasing on the eyes And now that's my initial grooming.
